ARMS AND THE POST

Being from its start a state or royal operation, the postal service is a good example for extensive official use of arms.

Arms were used to identify postmen, mail coaches and post offices.

When stamps and later postal stationery and meter machines were introduced, arms were chosen to emphasize their official status.
