HERALDIC CONCEPTS INFLUENCE ART AND DESIGN
Since heraldry was a form of design practised for centuries,
some of its concepts transferred to other fields of art and design.
The shield became a common frame for emblems of all sorts.
The use of lions on the sides of the Tables of the Convenant
in European Jewish art was influenced by the heraldic supporters.
The rule of separating metals and colours is widely observed
in flags.
