ARMS SHOW TIES TO THE MOTHERLAND
To show historical ties and loyalty, colonial arms often
incorporate the arms of the mother land or other symbols in their own arms.
Lion of England and the Union Jack.

Canada: England, Scotland, Ireland and France.
|
Castle and lion of Castile and Leon
on Spanish colonial arms.
|
The "Quinas" of Portugal were
a part of the arms of its colonies.
|
Founding fathers from the old country are another kind of
connection that can be expressed in arms. The City of Cape Town adopted
in 1804 as its own arms the shield of Jan van Riebeeck, head of the Dutch
East India Company, who founded the city in 1652.
